Even if performers who do bareback pay for regular testing and certification, there is still no guarantee that their results reflect an accurate reading of their current health record unless they have remained totally abstinent for at least 6 months, as any reliable HIV test can only detect infections that have been incubated for at least 6 months, making virtually all gay adult performer’s screening tests irrelevant. Similarly, even if there was some regulation to monitor the sexual activity of performers for six months prior to testing, there is virtually no way of accurately enforcing this, and expecting a bunch of horny young homos to keep their dicks in their hands for six months is asking more than is reasonable.

So the only real solution is to allow performers who perform exclusively with a single partner, which is usually also their real life lover, to be allowed to perform in unprotected sex scenes and let them earn the bareback pay, but even this system is flawed as people are not exactly 100% reliable in terms of faithfulness, and even one infidelity could lead to an unprotected scene producing an infection. Although in this case, it seems as though the infection would have occurred one way or another, as they presumable would have been having sex off screen as well.
